An Inside Look at Chuck Egner's Hi Strung Music & Pickin' Parlor

Hi Strung Music & Pickin' Parlor is a small locally owned music store located in the cradle of Washington State's Cascade Mountains in Leavenworth. We specialize in high quality acoustic instruments, mostly stringed. Our personal favorite is bluegrass music, but we have instruments representing genre's ranging from New Acoustic to Jazz to Celtic to Appalachian Mountain style.

We have the region's largest selection of bluegrass and acoustic music CD's, with a few surprises thrown in. We have the usual accessories and plenty of instructional materials on hand. Our web site has our used and vintage inventory listed, but we also represent Tacoma and Olympia Stringed instruments.

Whether you are looking for an entry level acoustic instrument or a Golden Era Martin Guitar, we have options for you. If you are in the area, we have an onsite Sixteen Track recording studio that can take your ideas from concept to CD. Any time two or more pickers converge on our site at one time, a jam breaks out. That's when the fun really begins.

Stop by, whether in person to pick, or virtually to browse. We're sure you will find something you like!

Front Room: In this room we have a wide variety of instruments, ranging from standard "D" series Martins to a couple of members of the lute family, notably a 10 string Scottish Cittern. There are a couple of Dobros and several basses, including a Maple and Spruce Martin B 65. The Autoharp is from the early sixty's, and the Tenor banjo from the twenties. The early sixties Vox 12 string is cool, and the Santa Cruz Tony Rice Model is a killer.

Front Room Continued: Here is an all Koa wood Martin D 25K2, pretty rare. Also a few new Olympia's, our line of entry level guitars. The stand up bass is an Englehardt M 1, seriously worked over by Hammond-Ashley of the Seattle area.

Golden Era Room: On the left are two 1937 Martin D 18's, hanging around with a 1949 D 28. To the right is a custom made Nashville Guitar Company 12 fret dred, rosewood back and sides and Adirondack top with herringbone trim. Next is a Kula guitar from Hawaii, also custom. Adirondack top with Koa back and sides. Carvin lap steel on the floor.

Golden Era Room Continued: That's an 1885 Martin O 28 in the corner, next to a Merrill C 18 Shadetop. It shares the wall with an HD28 LSV Martin and a 1933 o 17. that's a Collings D 3 on the floor in front of the Icicle F 5 mandolin, made here by Cliff Sittman. The hand work is amazing, and the sound is huge.

New Stuff: We sell Tacoma guitars, great sounding solid wood guitars. Big sound, usually for under $1,000 bucks.

CD's and Accessories: The usual stuff here, strings and such, except that we have about 500 of the coolest bluegrass and acoustic music CD's you are likely to see.

The Front Desk: This is where I occasionally nod off. Oh well...

The Workshop: This is where I do set ups and minor repair. I also watch a NASCAR race or two back there.
